The Best SEO Tips for Sites

The Best SEO Tips for Sites. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and is the name for strategies for increasing Internet traffic. There are numerous strategies to achieving this, some may be easier/less time consuming than others. SEO is basically how to increase your presence on search engines which should send more web traffic. Featuring as the top result for specific keywords is normally the main goal. A great place to start for your blog is to make sure it is SEO optimized - use targeted meta keywords and meta descriptions so search engines will be able to spider your site better. This only needs to be done once, once it has been set upcorrectly you will not have to do it another time. If your website is about natural cosmetics, write a description, a title and some keywords all targeting the topic. The meta description and title will be shown in search engine results so make sure it is correct and relevant.

Secondly, it is important to write well structured and unique content. Plagiarizing content from other sources will mean you get marked down by search engines. Search engines are now highly developed and clever at offering users the best content.

Once you have optimized your website correctly and written good, original content, the next step is to build links. The number of inbound links your site has is one of the most important ways a search engine determines how good your w

ebsite is. For example, if your website has more links than another, search engines will rank you higher and you will get more traffic. Writing good quality, keyword driven content will result in this process happening organically but it may take a while for search engines to find you. However, if you want to see faster results you may want to try the following techniques.

Firstly, write original content and submit it to article directories. Sometimes it may be tough for the articles to be accepted because they get reviewed by human reviewers. But, for every article you can get accepted, you also get a couple of links back to your website. You should see SEO as a game - trying to get quality links from good websites.

You are also able to build links to your website by posting and commenting on forums and blogs. Some blog owners allow you to link to your website with a dofollow link. Dofollow is not an actual HTML tag but it is the colloquial name for the opposite of the nofollow element in HTML. Nofollow was invented because SEO marketers used to spam/pay for links which meant you would dishonestly increase traffic. Nofollow means search engines will ignore the link which means you will not get any SEO benefit from it. Try to find blogs or forums that allow you to link to your site. This benefits the SEO of your site, increase your online presence and will allow you to network with your fellow bloggers with the blogosphere. The comments ought to be genuine and relevant to the posts. In most cases, writing something self-promotional (e.g.: "please visit my homepage") will not get accepted and you will have wasted time and effort. You should always be a productive commenter.

Furthermore, you may want to use book marking websites to bookmark to your content. Do not spam your website too much though because the admins for the book marking sites will most likely block your website from being added. But as with directories, book marking your website will get you a link from a good quality site. If a website is well established, search engines give you more kudos from getting a link from there. In other words, getting a link from a really popular social book marking website is worth more SEO-wise than a link from a small, unheard of site.

One last tip (although there are many more) is to submit your website to directories. They may be annoying to setup but you can get a good inbound link to your website if you manage it. A lot of the directories are well established and have high page rankings. Although there are normally various options for submission. There tends to be many different payment options. The three options normally are: paid for, free with reciprocal links and free without reciprocal links. If you can pay for links (although they can be quite costly) then you will see your website fast tracked into the directory. A free link may take months to be approved (as there is often a long waiting list for websites to be accepted). Reciprocal links are not necessarily beneficial for your SEO (these aren't given credence like one-way links). These may be beneficial for referring traffic but for SEO purposes these are not as useful.

If you follow the above hints and tips then you should see an improvement in your search engine rankings. However you should also definitely be using services to monitor and report your SEO efforts and Internet traffic. You will then be able to compare the impact of different strategies and areas which you need to focus on more.

Update 23rd March 2012

Due to the recent Google announcement that they are going after sites that build an unnatural number of links, the quantity of links is going to be less of an importance for ranking in Google. Article directories are probably now a waste of time to submit to for ranking purposes, but they can still drive traffic, particularly in the case of ezinearticles.com. When the dust settles and we have some definitive test results we shall report those to you.
